Kaleidoscope Paper Piecing – part 2

If you’ve been following my blog the last couple weeks, you know I’ve been showing quilts that my quilting friends made for my NEW book Kaleidoscope Paper Piecing. Once again, I’m humbled by the generousity of these dear friends. When I asked for help, these lovely ladies answered my call… to quote Eleanor Roosevelt, “Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.”

Today, I’m sharing the four quilts I made for THE book.

Shadow Play was chosen for the cover… in case you’re wondering, I leave that decision up to the talented women and men at Martingale. For me, it would be a difficult choice, a bit like trying to chose a favorite child.

Alternating light and dark blocks create an interplay of shadows, while the purple and yellow triangles enhance the design to form circles and waves that move across the quilt.

For Star Rosettes, I used a combination of red, white, and black fabrics. I like any star block, traditional or otherwise, and this block has two four-pointed stars. An additional star is created with the simple side-by-side setting.

I lived in Seattle for over 20 years and each spring I would revel in the splendid array of nature’s green colors. Spring Green is an ode to spring with its variety of refreshing green fabrics. Two different background fabrics were used to add dimension.

The blocks in Dutch Treat remind me of the blades found on windmills in Holland. With thoughts of the Dutch landscape in mind, I decided to use colors reminiscent of vintage Pennsylvania Dutch quilts… but with a modern twist.

Thanks for joining me. As always, I’d love to hear your comments about the quilts in this new book. And I hope to see you in my travels…
