Quilts from Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks goes on sale TODAY! Woo Hoo!! In this new special edition, QM Rock the Blocks with 19 fabulous quilts and 5 bonus table runner patterns. I’m super thrilled that my Mexican Sunflowers quilt is included in this wonderful magazine!
I’m particularly fond of two-block quilt designs … so, I started with a modified version of my Cornflowers block #347 from 100 Blocks, vol. 4. Then, I used EQ7 to play with various secondary blocks until I found one that complimented the revised Cornflowers block.
I added three plain borders to frame the center. Then I added an appliqued border and a pieced border to echo the design in the Cornflowers block. One additional plain border completed the design. Color came next … I used the colors in this plate as my inspiration for choosing fabrics from various basic collections by P&B Textiles. I love it when a plan comes together!
In this design, the flowers are added AFTER the quilting is finished. (Actually, I even add the binding before attaching the flowers … but don’t tell anyone!) I used Fairfield’s American Spirit – Cotton Classic batting and Sulky’s PolyLite 60 wt thread to create a flat, traditional look. You’ll see all of my quilting designs in the magazine.

I have to confess … cutting out 102 circles seemed a bit daunting. I used an Olfa cutter like this one to make the job much easier. If you have another kind of cutter that you like … use it!
I attached each folded flower with a light-yellow button from Hillcreek Designs. The folded flowers add dimension and a little touch of whimsey to this fun quilt!
You’ll find Quilts from Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks at your local quilt shop and bookstore. Or you can purchase it online from Quiltmaker.
Leave a comment on this blog post before 11:59 p.m. MDT tonight, September 4, for a chance to win a copy of Quilts from Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks. I will draw one name at random. One comment per person, please.
Be sure to visit Quiltmaker’s Quilty Pleasures blog and leave a comment for more chances to win.
