I love using curves to create design elements in my quilts. I also love using lots and lots of fabrics. So, when designing a quilt for Quilter’s Newsletters Best Scrap Quilts 2014 I wanted to combine these two loves. After tossing around some different color options, I decided to use four colors. So, I grabbed my color wheel and selected two sets of complimentary colors…purple/green and teal/orange. Then I pulled out my scraps, along with a variety of black and white fabrics. And….Violá! Color Splash was born!
For the blocks, I used precut 10″ squares, as well as leftover strips and other scraps. I chose a black fabric with gray dots for the border. Then I topped it all off with a black-and-white stripe for the binding.
I appliquéd the black and white arcs using the starch machine appliqué technique from my book Simple Circles and Quick Curves. My philosophy is why piece those curves when it’s so much easier to appliqué them!
